"The past is never dead. It's not even past."
Kat quotes Faulkner | The Way Home

In The Way Home, stories from Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass inspire each season, blending mystery with Alice’s adventures. She shares a name with the character and explores strange places, changing our perspective on reality. Kat names her daughter, Alice, after her childhood friend, who turns out to be her time-traveling daughter, which adds an unexpected twist and makes us ponder fate. Naming her daughter Alice connects Kat’s past and future and shows how stories shape family traditions. In The Way Home, Alice’s grandmother, Del (Andie MacDowell), tells her that this book will affect her future, emphasizing how each generation has its own family story. In 1979, Colton plans to give Evelyn (Evie), his childhood friend, these two classic tales by Lewis Carroll with a hidden message in invisible ink. Throughout The Way Home, Alice in Wonderland is often mentioned as characters talk, face challenges, and uncover deeper truths. Each reference enriches the story, tying Alice’s adventures to the mysteries of the characters and their backgrounds in The Way Home.

In The Way Home, Kat discovers her mother’s letter, reminding her of their family’s past. This letter provides comfort to Kat and her daughter, connecting them through time. These nostalgic letters highlight the importance of handwritten notes in today’s digital age. The story takes us back to 1814, when Jacob writes an important letter using a quill. Throughout the series, handwritten notes connect different eras. The beauty of his writing, with careful quill strokes, enriches the story, showing that writing feelings on paper is timeless. The contrast between Kat’s modern life and Jacob’s past emphasizes how writing affects both the writer and the reader. In a hectic world, The Way Home reminds us that written words can offer comfort, connection, and a true sense of belonging.

In The Way Home, Kat travels back to 1814 to find her brother, Jacob. As she looks around this different time, we see how the clothing differs from today. I really like the long, heavy dresses, nice collars, and beautiful silk undergarments. In The Way Home, the villagers wear dresses that look like pioneer styles, with lovely patterns and fashionable hats. Fashion was not just about clothing; it reflected social status and personality. Each outfit tells a story, with delicate lace and rich colors typical of that time. As Kat navigates through this historical setting, the changing clothes add to the experience, pulling us into her journey and the differences in the time periods.

The Way Home

The Way Home takes viewers on a journey through time, family, and history. One of the best things about The Way Home is the interesting book references that make the story more engaging and spark interest in different stories. This adds depth to the plot and encourages curiosity about books as the story unfolds. The Way Home follows the Landry family’s exciting time travel adventures and often mentions books from different eras.
In the first season of The Way Home, Alice mentions Peter Pan, which leads to important talks with Kat about growing up. These discussions highlight their struggles with changes, especially regarding Jacob, as they realize that growing up can be tough. By sharing their feelings, they support each other through difficult emotions.
The Brothers Grimm (fellow librarians!) collected German folktales to keep oral traditions alive.

In 1812, a magic storybook amazed readers with its early tales. A few years later, more fun stories were added. By 1814, in The Way Home, Susanna excitedly shares with Kat, who comes from another time, all about The Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales.
In 1814, everyone is talking about a talented author known for her love stories. In The Way Home, Susanna dreams of publishing her own writing one day, inspired by the famous Jane Austen.
The Four Quartets is the final major poem by Nobel Prize winner T. S. Eliot, which he regarded as his best work.
In 1979, time-traveling Alice meets Elliott’s mom in a diner in The Way Home. She tells Alice that T. S. Eliot is her favorite poet and shares a line from his poem, Four Quartets: “Go, go, go, said the bird: humankind cannot bear very much reality.” When Kat tells Elliott about this, he says T.S. Eliot is his namesake.
"It’s easy to fall into old habits, memories."
