Hannah Swensen is a baker in small-town Minnesota. Detective Mike Kingston of the Minneapolis PD moves to Lake Eden to be with Hannah and always needs Hannah’s help in uncovering the mysteries, which often involve her beloved bakery and café, The Cookie Jar Bakery. As Hannah strives to solve the crimes, she never forgets to bake delicious desserts and baked goods!
Lake Eden, Minnesota
Nestled in rural Minnesota, the idyllic Lake Eden is a charming and peaceful town, adorned with quaint homes, safe main streets and The Cookie Jar Bakery – a place of happiness and joy. Unfortunately, this small and picturesque town has a sinister side, with many mysterious murders and crimes occurring here.
The series initially started with 5 movies titled “Murder, She Baked” before it was rebranded and renamed to “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” films.
All the films are set in chronological order and feature many of the same cast members.
Hannah and Mike have been planning their wedding for months now, and their love is growing stronger every day! As they plan their new life together, they’re blissfully unaware of the dark mystery that’s brewing in their small town.
When a local personal trainer is found murdered, Hannah and Mike find themselves swept up in a mysterious case that has the entire town buzzing. This was no easy mystery to solve, but the two of them were determined to find out what happened. With the help of their friends, family, and local police, they slowly began to unravel the clues that would eventually lead them to the truth. They spent days and nights discussing the case, interviewing witnesses, and gathering evidence to crack the case. Hannah and Mike’s work paid off when they finally uncovered the killer’s identity.
Meanwhile, Hannah’s younger sister came to town. The two sisters haven’t seen each other in years, but they quickly bonded over the cream puffs that Hannah baked for her mother’s book launch. They laughed and reminisced about the old days, and it was so nice to see them reunited.
It was a joy to witness another chapter in Hannah’s The Cookie Jar Bakery after a long two-year break! The bakery’s décor, with its robin’s egg blue hues, was a treat for the eyes.
As for the mystery, it was a bit unusual. The deceased was a notorious person who had been dead for twenty-five years, and even his loving wife had distanced herself from him. I had already guessed the identity of the killer long before the case was resolved.
Despite the obstacles, Hannah went out of her way to bring the killer to justice, which made things difficult for Detective Mike. Mike had been given instructions by his superior to halt Hannah’s investigation.
Eventually, Hannah returned her engagement ring to Mike, which was a sad moment. I left the show feeling melancholic and hoping for another movie where the couple could rekindle their romance and finally tie the knot
Hannah frequently wears baking aprons from her own cafe, The Cookie Jar Bakery. Her passion for baking leaves her covered in flour and other ingredients. Outside of the bakery, Hannah enjoys investigating and visiting locals in comfortable, relaxed attire. For special occasions such as parties or dates with Mike, she dons elegant dresses to dress up.
